Watercolour is a transparent medium in which the white of the paper shines through to produce a brilliant and translucent effect. Gouache is a thicker type of watercolour which has some of the properties of oil paint, ie, it can be used thin or thick and you can paint light over dark colours, which is not usually a good idea with watercolour. I sometimes use it to produce texture in certain kinds of animal's fur. The two types of paint can also be used together.
These dog portraits were all commissioned recently. I particularly like the idea of the doggie by the Rainbow Bridge.
